OUR BEGINNING
Having originally been built in the 1950s as the 'The Motel Virginia', the premises offered a charming combination of amenities including a roadside shop, a lively bar, a refreshing outdoor swimming pool, and cozy chalet-style bedrooms. It quickly became a popular destination for travelers looking for a comfortable and convenient stay.
In 1977, the hotel went up for sale and caught the attention of Farrell O'Reilly, who purchased it on behalf of his brother-in-law, James Keogan. Despite living in America at the time, James had a deep connection to Ireland and had plans to return home. This marked the beginning of the hotel's rich family ownership lineage, a legacy that is still cherished today. In fact, the original receipt from this momentous purchase is proudly displayed in the hotel, serving as a reminder of its humble beginnings.
Under James' visionary leadership, the hotel underwent a remarkable transformation and was rebranded as The Lakeside Manor. Throughout the 1980s, it flourished under his watchful care, becoming a beloved establishment for locals and tourists alike. However, in the late 1980s, the hotel was sold to the McGuirk family, marking a new chapter in its history.
It wasn't until 1989 when Farrell's daughter, Méabh, and her husband, Jim Brady, had the opportunity to bring The Lakeside Manor back into the family. With their entrepreneurial spirit and passion for hospitality, they reimagined the hotel as the vibrant Rodeo Steakhouse and Surfers' Nightclub, breathing new life into the establishment.
From 1998 to 2001, the Bradys embarked on an ambitious project to elevate The Lakeside Manor to new heights. They demolished the entire property and meticulously rebuilt it to create the magnificent hotel that stands today. Every detail was carefully considered to ensure a seamless blend of modern comfort and timeless elegance.
Continuing the family legacy, Méabh and Jim's sons now oversees the operation of The Lakeside Manor. The hotel boasts a collection of breathtaking lake view rooms, each offering a mesmerising vista of the tranquil waters. Guests can indulge in a delightful culinary experience with a choice of on-site dining options, including the elegant Fáilte Suite dining room and the inviting Manor Bar.
